As a means of marketing the country's gold, the Gold Krugerrand was first conceptualized in 1967. Both across the globe and within the country, it is now the most popular piece of currency. This coin measures 22.06 mm in diameter.
The reverse side of this coin shows an image of the springbok antelope, South Africa's national animal. The gold’s weight and year of minting are also displayed on this side.
On the obverse side of this coin, you will find – in English and in Afrikaans – "South Africa", along with a likeness of its first and only president, Paul Kruger.
Each coin is marked ¼ Troy oz., its net gold weight, and its gold purity is 91.67%, or 22k. To any portfolio or collection, the Gold Krugerrand is a welcome addition. Still available for purchase, it is one of the most widely traded gold coins.
