Name | $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin |
Weight | 0.967500 troy oz |
Metal Type | Gold |
Released as part of Roosevelt's coin beautification campaign in 1907, this $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin was, not surprisingly, created by Augustus Saint Gaudens. The winning coin design was selected at the 1900 Paris (World's Fair) Expedition. The design was cast in bronze for more detail after being reworked from a model that was created from marble. Prior to the 1933 secession of gold currency, this is one of the last coins minted – giving a great historical significance. This coin is classified as being in Extremely Fine (XF) condition.
A classic take on the lady liberty portrait is featured on the obverse side of this coin. As she peers down from a mountaintop upon the capital building, she is depicted in her flowing toga. In her right and left hands are an olive branch and a torch – respectively.
The national bird, majestically captured in full flight, is featured on the reverse side of this coin as he fearlessly soars above the rising sun.
