Name | $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin XF |
Weight | 0.967500 troy oz |
Metal Type | Gold |
Released as part of Roosevelt's coin beautification campaign in 1907, this $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin was, not surprisingly, created by Augustus Saint Gaudens. The winning coin design was selected at the 1900 Paris (World's Fair) Expedition. Prior to the 1933 secession of gold currency, this is one of the last coins minted – giving a great historical significance. This coin is classified as being in Almost Uncirculated (AU) condition.
On the obverse side of this coin Lady Liberty is depicted, surrounded by stars representing each one of the United States. She was only surrounded by 46 stars, back in 1907. To represent the addition of Arizona and New Mexico, two more stars were added in 1912.
With wings spread wide, the reverse side depicts a bald eagle as it soars over the setting sun. Toward the edge of the coin, the rays of the sun stretch outward. Along the sun's edge, "In God We Trust" can be seen.
