Name | 20 Francs France Gold Coin - Napoleon III .1867oz |
Weight | 0.186700 troy oz |
Metal Type | Gold |
For more than two centuries, the 20-franc gold coin has been issued by French mints. First issued in 1852, gold coins featuring the Napoleon III design are highly popular among collectors and historians. Elected by popular vote in 1848 – during the days of the French Revolution – Napoleon III was originally the first French leader to be elected in such a manner. Until Emmanuel Macron's 2017 victory, Napoleon was the youngest man ever elected in France and the first leader to hold the title of President.
Highlights of this coin include the following:
• Issued by the French government, it has a face value of 20 francs.
• Contains .1867 troy ounce of actual gold weight.
• Struck between 1853 and 1870.
For the reverse side of this coin, two possible designs exist – either the French coat of arms or the face value of the coin surrounding a wreath. Created by Jean Jacques Barre, busts of Napoleon III appear on the obverse side of this coin.
