Switzerland, as a nation, is noted for its honest money and gold industry. In 1897, the gold 20-franc coin was first issued by the Bern Mint. Soon, throughout Europe, the coins were circulated, with the Swiss reputation driving their popularity. Today, in all the world, they are among the most recognized and familiar gold coins.
Characteristics of the gold 20-franc coin are as follows:
• Minted twice – in 1947 and 1949, as well as 1897 to 1935 by the Bern Mint.
• At 90% purity, contains .1867 oz actual gold.
• Very low premiums.
The reverse side depicts, surrounded by oak leaves, the Swiss shield. Also on this side, you will find the date of issue and the 20 franc denomination. On the obverse side, the symbol of Switzerland and of Liberty – a female figure – is designed by Fritz Landry.
